Agência FAPESP* – The Ipiranga Museum in São Paulo city, Brazil is home to the largest historical collection on Brazilian Independence. In the context of the museum’s reopening in September 8th, 2022 – following the 200th anniversary of Brazil’s emancipation from Portugal – the São Paulo School of Advanced Science Bicentennial of Independence will be held on February 6-15, 2023 in São Paulo.
The event is supported by FAPESP through its São Paulo School of Advanced Science program (SPSAS) and emerges as an opportunity to discuss in depth the process of Brazil’s Independence in different perspectives.
In a first track, the process will be discussed from the perspective of international relations, with special attention to the process of recognition of independence abroad. The second track, dedicated to domestic issues, will bring the political perspectives of independence within the different regions of Brazil. In this case, instead of addressing independence from the point of view of historiographical and political interpretations, the temporal evolution of regional commemorations on independence will be taken as the center of the analysis.
The São Paulo School of Advanced Science Bicentennial of the Brazilian Independence will select up to 100 researchers (50 for Brazilians and 50 for foreigners). The School will fully fund the flights and accommodation for all participants (this does not, however, apply to those who live in the São Paulo Metropolitan Area).
Interested parties may apply by filling out an online form. The deadline is January 6, 2023.
The School will be held at the Ipiranga Museum, located at Rua dos Patriotas, 20, Vila Monumento, São Paulo, Brazil.
