Agência FAPESP – On September 23, FAPESP hosted a visit by representatives of Ohio State University in the United States. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss strategies to foster scientific cooperation between researchers based in São Paulo state and colleagues affiliated with OSU.
“By signing scientific agreements with FAPESP, foreign institutions can establish collaborations with researchers affiliated with all universities and research institutions in São Paulo state via projects supported by FAPESP,” said Marco Antonio Zago, President of FAPESP.
Kaya Sahin, OSU’s Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs, recalled that OSU already has longstanding partnerships with research institutions in the state, such as the University of São Paulo’s Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ-USP), and now aims to take these to a higher level.
“We’ve conducted very significant projects in the past, and we want to renew our strategic partnerships and establish new ones with universities and research institutions in São Paulo state. We’re very much aware of their strengths,” he said.
The OSU delegation also included David Horn, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Dana Renga, Divisional Dean of Arts and Humanities; Leslie Callihan, Director of International Initiatives in Engineering, College of Engineering; Rita Koryan, Director of International External Engagement; Luis Canas, Associate Professor of Entomology and Director of College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) International Programs; Anil Makhija, Professor Emeritus; Katie Emmons, Public Relations Coordinator; and Jane Aparecido, Senior Director of the Ohio State Brazil Gateway.
Also representing FAPESP at the meeting were Raul Machado Neto, an advisor to the Presidency; Connie McManus, the Scientific Directorate’s Research Collaboration Manager; and Alexandre Roccatto, an advisor to the Research Collaboration Manager.
